YOUTH LEADERSHIP TRAINING

International Youth Day

On this day we join with others around the world in the movement to empower youth with skills for a more sustainable future.  On this day, Mo, our youth leadership coordinator, holds a youth leadership conference that brings together several hundred young adults from multiple local organizations to address the many challenges that Haitians face.  Participants hear from several speakers and engage in workshops that are designed to inspire and equip them as well as expand their networks to encourage collaborative problem solving.

After the workshop youth enjoy a time of sports and recreation and those with entrepreneurial ventures are given the opportunity to sell their products and services.

Humanitarian Team

In 2022 we launched an all-volunteer Haiti Share humanitarian team to educate the public regarding cholera prevention.  In 2023 we trained an additional 60 youth in first aid, vital signs, public health, and disease prevention so they could join the team.  This year the team, along with some of our nursing students, has been giving free health screenings and educational sessions to member of the community.

Haitian Flag Day

Every year on Haitian Flag Day the youth participate in a seminar that encourages community service and citizenship approaches to solve Haiti’s problems.  This year the day included a book drive for our Haiti Share library.

Team Participation

  • Provides strength and support for its members
  • Builds communication skills
  • Gives members experience in working with a team
  • Provides a network of contacts that can aid team members in obtaining a job.

The team is an ongoing “family” in which members can remain as long as they have the desire to do so. Many of our graduates come back to help with our special events.

We fund community projects for children and adults that our team members plan and execute themselves.

Library Committee

Education Committee

The Education Committe meets to plan seminars and trainings to encourage students to have academic success.

Environmental Committee

The environmental committee desires to raise awareness regarding environmental issues and sustainable development in Haiti.

Support to Attend Local Conferences

We also offer team members stipends to attend local conferences, seminars and networking events in Haiti. These not only give further training in practical leadership skills, they help our students connect with Haitian leaders. Some of the organizations that hold these conferences and seminars include:

  • CEDEL Haiti
  • Global Leadership Summit
  • Haiti One
  • Haiti Tech Summit
  • Summit Group Croissance

Youth Leadership Class

When our Junior Haiti Share kids outgrow the children’s program, they are invited to enroll in our weekly youth leadership class. Other youth are also free to join. Many come from a distance for this class. Active students in this class with good grades are eligible to receive transportation stipends for college or trade school.

Just a few of the topics in the class are the following:

  • Haiti Share’s values and principles
  • How to study effectively
  • How to choose a field of study and a profession
  • Identifying your talents and gifts
  • Financial Literacy
  • Entrepreneurship skills

School Support

We support young adults in universities and trade schools in Haiti.  We currently have eleven students receiving full support and more waiting to be sponsored.

Majors of our current students include business administration, agronomy, nursing, education, electromechanics and law.

Chess Club

In 2022 the youth leaders organized a chess club for the older children in our Jr. Haiti Share program.  Chess benefits them by teaching strategy and problem-solving skills as well as improving memory and cognitive ability, which are all important for future Haitian leaders.

Entrepreneurship Committee

We incorporate entrepreneurship training in our youth leadership classes by exposing them to business leaders in the community as well as by giving them training in the skills that are needed to successfully launch a business, including problem-solving, communication, and working collaboratively.

The youth have their own website designed to be a resource for Haitian youth to learn about civic, academic, and leadership opportunities.
